Needle felting is the art of creating sculpture and appliques using barbed needles and various fibers, like wool, which has tiny scales that catch and tangle on the needle's barbs, felting the fiber together into a denser material that can be shaped and textured. Appliques are not sewn on; they are felted directly onto the fabric on the bag without stitches, creating a very clean design. Felted figurines and play food also share this clean, stitch-free design, allowing the whimsy of the artist to shine through.
